Shanghai/Shenzhen Hong Kong Stock Connect

Introduction to Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect & Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect

On 10 April 2014, the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) of Hong Kong and the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) issued a joint announcement, giving in-principle approval for the establishment of a cross-border trading and clearing connectivity mechanism between the mainland Chinese and Hong Kong stock markets, namely the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect.

Under the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect programme, The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited (SEHK, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited) and the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) enable mutual order routing between the two markets and establish supporting technical infrastructure, allowing investors in each market to trade stocks listed on the other market.

Hong Kong Securities Clearing Company Limited (HKSCC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of HKEX) and China Securities Depository and Clearing Corporation Limited (CSDC) provide clearing, settlement, custody, nominee holding and other relevant services for mainland and Hong Kong investors conducting transactions via the Stock Connect schemes.
